Special Lectures in 2024
A scholar is asked to join all of these Special Lectures/Seminars, because they are specially designed for our scholars to help understand the diversity of cultures and consider international issues (especially relevant to East Asia). Those who missed a special lecture (with a strong reason) can take a Special Seminar instead. Notice that the requirement is 6 hours a year, and usually we arrange 3 hours in each semester.

- Abstract: Professor Shinya Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology on iPS cells. Many technologies that were considered as “dreams” at the beginning, such as iPS cells, have been realized in modern society. On the other hand, however, as science and technology have advanced, we are now faced with environmental, resource, energy, and other issues on a global scale, and our global civilization is facing a crisis. I would like to discuss how to use science and technology for the maintenance and development of modern civilization and the “survival of the human race,” how to develop the world over the next 100 years of the 21st century, and what role leaders in the international community should play to achieve this goal.

- Abstract: The spirit of the founder of Bai Xian, Ronald Chao, is to nurture global leaders from Asia based on his many years of experience as a business executive and his study abroad experience in Japan. He entrusted me with the role of Bai Xian Japan's chairman of the board. I would like to share my thoughts with Bai Xian scholars and other members about "what it takes to be a global leader" and "what to think and do to become a global leader". I have worked for MUFG, Citigroup in the U.S., and currently working at Japanese subsidiary of Apollo. Apollo being the most advanced investment company in the U.S., for 50 years. My career has consistently involved in global financial business and its management. Through my own experience and the experience of many people I have met during my career, I would like to discuss "the importance of global leaders". Japanese economy as well the world economy is undergoing a major transformation, and there has never been a time when global leaders are more needed than today. I look forward to discussing this with you all.
